Ringling Bros. Famed Fat Lady Dies



MONTELLO - The famed fat lady of Ringling Brothers Circus, Ella Mabel Grahn, in private life Mrs. Robert Milbauer, 65, who maintained a home here, died there at 3:20 p.m. Thursday.


Mrs. Milbauer, who became world-famous through her more than 500 pounds, was born in Fall Creek May 7, 1899.


She toured with her first sideshow for Ringling Brothers in 1956 and in March of that same year captivated audiences in Madison Square Garden, New York.


Survivors besides her husband three brothers, Ralph and Arthur Grahn, Berlin, Bernard, Sheboygan falls; and one sister, Mrs. Howard Benke, Portage.


Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cummings Funeral Home, Montello, the Rev. Charles Schinlaub in charge.  Burial will be in the City Cemetery, Montello.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Saturday until time of service.
