...I travelled with the circus in 1961, and there was a giant from Iceland. I forget his name etc, This was in the United States, Baltimore...North Dakota...etc.. could you give me some info as to who he was?  Thanks Conrad

Conrad; Johann Petursson was billed as "the Icelandic Giant" and claimed a height of 8' 8". Early in his career he dressed in top hat, waistcoat and tails, in later in his career in began dressing as a Viking.

Petursson was born in Dalvik, Iceland in 1913. He began exhibiting himself in Europe, In 1948, Petursson emigrated to the United States, appearing with Ringling Brothers. In 1950, Johann also appeared  in a movie called Prehistoric Women. In the 60's Petursson retired to Gibsonton, Florida,  Ward Hall was able to bring him back to the midway one last time in 1973 performing at an event at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Petursson passed away in 1984.

Appearing in films and magazines, he worked every major circus and carnival until he retired.
