John Wallace
Crawford
- known to the
world as “The Poet Scout" - was one of those "larger than
life" characters that peopled the American West in the
second half of the 19th century.
He was a Civil
War Soldier, Army Scout, Indian Fighter, friend of Buffalo
Bill Cody and Wild Bill Hickock, a performer in Buffalo
Bill's Wild West, an outstanding horseman, gunman and most
of all Showman who wore elaborately fringed buckskin
clothing and wrote poetry and prose that captured the
essence of the “Wild West”.
It was often
said that Captain Jack bore a strong resemblance to Buffalo
Bill Cody and Jack himself was known to admit that he
emulated his good friend in dress and hair style.
