THE SIDESHOW CONVOY
We formed a Sideshow
Convoy as we pulled off the lot in
Alexandria, La. I
fell in behind the two Big Circus Sideshow
units as we headed
south. Designation…Washington Parish
Free Fair in
Franklinton, La. A nice four day spot where the
Mighty Thomas
Carnival holds the midway contract.
We arrive early in
the afternoon, spot the trucks and trailers
and start setting
up. No big rush, we have two days until we
open. While I wait
to get spotted, we help the Curator put up
the BCS bannerline.
Later…
The shows opened at
10:00 AM to big crowds of fun-seekers
early Wednesday
morning. Where do all the people come from…
the lot is packed
before noon! We caught some rain the in the
evening but it’s
hard to back off THESE fair-goers.
Uncertain…
I wondered how my
Giant Rat Show would play in Louisiana
as they have plenty
of wild Nutria in the state. Now I know…
no problem, the
curious fair-goers fall right in.
What‘s cooking…
Authentic Cajun
Cuisine…red beans and rice, crawfish etouffee,
shrimp gumbo,
jambalaya, and gator-on-stick. Yeah, they have
all the regular fair
food but I’m eating Arcadian this week.
They have something
called a T-Rex Turkey Leg at one stand.
Feeds an entire
family!?!
Big, big crowds…
A most welcome front
moved through Friday morning bring
cool, dry air for
the last two days. The fair-goers literally
PACK the midway.
Show guys are all smiles.
Great way to wrap up
the season!!!
Wish you were here,
Rick West
