following photo-packed article is about the third annual
rogue taxidermy contest held at Union Hall club in
Brooklyn, New York on November 2, 2007.
This manuscript was produced by Dr. Eriko N. Bond, an
art critic and author in New York City, as told by
Takeshi Yamada. All the photographs featured here were
taken by Takeshi Yamada and Diane M. Taros.

Contest

From the
West Coast to the East Coast, 15 contestants attended
with their proud treasures;
traditional/historic/creative/freak taxidermy specimens,
sideshow gaffs, insect accessories and jewelry,
anthropomorphic taxidermy, pure artworks, pickled jokes,
and more.

A museum
quality taxidermy artwork of a real two-headed calf and
a flawlessly produced lovely fake two-headed cat (gaff)
by Evolution store.

(L) Insect
jewelry & accessories. Dead bugs can be so fashionable.
(R) A tiny
horned mouse used to travel to shows in Russia (gaff).
(L) A
gorgeous bird of paradise that was once worn on this
contestant’s grandmother’s large hat.
(R) A
beautifully framed Victorian taxidermy diorama of
modified mice as tiny polar bears.
(L) A lime
stone-covered plastic skull created last summer in
imitation the famous diamond skull by a freak British
artist, Damien Hirst.
(R)
Anthropomorphic “Pope Squirrel” based on a dream of the
lady in the left. It was created by her friends as a
birthday present for her.
(L) An
impressive, large hairy nine-banded armadillo taxidermy.
(R) Cow hoof
of a gun rack sent from the contestant’s parents for
this contest for her.
(L) Mounted
head of the Native American’s mythological creature Corn
Dog.
(R) A tiny
bird-monster in a jar.
(L) Nate
Hill (one of MART members) with a bagged wet freak
monster head.
(R) Pickled
coffee mug and tofu presented in jars as mysterious
animal body parts.
