Baseball Game & Fireworks
Part 1

Brooklyn Cyclones
logo on T-shirt. The curved line and architectural pattern at
the bottom of this logo simulates the Cyclone roller coaster
(the only remaining grand-scale historical roller coaster in
Coney Island) - It has been a National Landmark since 1991. If
this logo does not have a flying baseball in it, it could have
been used as the logo of the Cyclone roller coaster logo. LOL.
Very cool. Very Coney Island!
I was invited by
Steve Stickney, the exhibition and cultural/art director at the
Coney Island Library, to go to see the baseball game (Brooklyn
Cyclones vs. Lowell Spinners). It was held on September 7, 2007
at Keyspan Park (baseball stadium) on Surf Avenue in Coney
Island. It is only one block (3 minutes walking distance) from
the Coney Island-Stillwell subway station for visitors from
other areas. The Coney Island branch of the Brooklyn public
library is where my art exhibition “Cabinet of Curiosities” is
on display. (Over 100 specimens and artifacts of modern American
sideshows from my selected collections are on display for free
public viewing.) The baseball stadium, which is the home of the
minor league Cyclone, is only 5 minutes walking distance from my
residence. I have not been to the stadium since 2003, so, I was
thrilled to be there again.

A general ticket for
bleacher seating.

Before going to the
baseball game, I went out walking at amusement parks and the
beach like any other day in warm months. Today’s temperature was
77-68F degree based on the reading at P.S. 100 in Coney Island.
At 5:30 pm, it was not quite hot at the Coney Island Beach. Less
than a dozen people were dipping in the cool water. This year’s
final fireworks are scheduled tonight at Coney Island beach, so,
the preparation there was visible from the boardwalk. The area
was barricaded and protected by security and police officers.
The picture shown above was taken by the main beach pavilion on
Stillwell Avenue and the boardwalk. It appears that small dogs
(as opposed to bigger dogs) are more excited and thrilled to see
my Sea Rabbit. LOL (September 7, 2007)

Karaoke at one of
the pavilions at the boardwalk by the amusement parks. Only a
few dozen people were there compared to the same Friday late
afternoon last week with over several hundred people.

The summer season
ended September 3, 2007 (Labor Day), and school started. On
September 3, the life guards also completed their duties just
before dusk on until the next year. Because of these reasons,
there were not so many people at the Astroland Amusement park
(shown above) and Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement park today like
last week. These two amusement parks will still open from now on
for Fridays and weekends only for a while.
Astroland
Amusement
Park has been operating since 1962.
Nevertheless, The Albert Family, owners of the park, already
sold the property to Thor Equities, Inc. last year. Many people
say Astroland Amusement Park will be completely demolished by
the end of this year to build a completely new amusement here by
the major developer. (September 7, 2007)
Peggy O’Neill’s and
Peter Pizza are two main street level restaurants at Keyspan
Park.

A giant “Cyclone
City” sticker on the glass window of the gift shop.
