Labor Day, Part 1
Following are my comments on my selected photographs taken today
on September 3, 2003, Labor Day. It is the last day of the
summer season of Coney Island amusement park businesses. This is
the last working day for lifeguards. This is also the last day
for the amusement parks to open every day. Schools start
tomorrow.

A Tibetan Buddhist monk? No, he is a lifeguard at the Coney
Island Beach. Thank you very much for your hard work at the
beach here for watching over our safety, especially of that of
our children! (September 3, 2007. Labor Day)

This is by the entrance of the Astroland Amusement Park. The
heavy pedestrian traffic and outdated old wooden boards are a
deadly combination. Help! (September 3, 2007. Labor Day)

A line of gorgeous
motorcycles by Astroland Amusement Park. (September 3, 2007,

Takeshi Yamada, Sea
Rabbit (“Seara”), and two cool dudes with their home-made super
bicycles. (September 3, 2007. Labor Day)

Circus Amok was a
true treat on the big finale of this summer season by the board
walk in Coney Island. (September 3, 2007. Labor Day)

Yes. Brooklyn’s real bearded Lady with unshaved hair is one of
the crew of Circus Amok. (Surprisingly, she has a very feminine
voice.) In the State of New York, it is illegal to show
physically deformed humans or animals for entertainment
including sideshows, but there is a really big loophole in the
legal regulation – they can be exploited for financial gain when
they perform talented, trained, skilled, specialized,
professional acts like a conventional entertainer. In recent
years, I have seen Seal Boy (A man from London with extremely
short arms--his birth defect was caused by Thalidomide), Wolf
Boy (thick hair covering entire face and body), Bearded Lady
(shown above) on the show stage in Coney Island. I report. You
decide. (September 3, 2007. Labor Day)

The live band in
proper attires of the Circus Amok was also a treat. (September

Takeshi Yamada, Sea
rabbit (“Seara”), and the dressed mermaid from France at Coney
Island Beach. Not everyone wears bikini or bathing suit at the
beach. The black hat, black shades, and black long dress is a
new black --- to me. The Wonder Wheel, Astroland Tower and
Cyclone Roller Coaster
can be seen in the
background. (September 3, 2007. Labor Day)
