Jim Sheely's main goal as an
artist is to make stuff that he want to see made.
He tries to work in a
variety of mediums. He's currently most interested in
wood carving.
Jim really enjoys the idea
of systematically destroying a chunk of
wood until
something strange and new is born
Woodcarving has allowed him
to start over as an artist, to teach himself to see in a
different way.
Jim likes to create works
that add to the lowbrow, folk, and fine art traditions.
He's affected and changed by everything that makes its
way through the holes in his head.
Jim has been
inspired by his teachers, friends, fellow artists,
and
family who have helped him to see and be a better artist
and person.
Jim lives happily with his
wife, Rhonda, his son Gravy, and daughter Kiki.
