Todd
Sanders is a self-proclaimed urban archaeologist. In
fact, he is an artist and designer whose specialty
is 20th-century popular culture. He spent the first
half of his life living in the 20th century.
He plans to devote the rest of it celebrating the
true essence of 20th-century American popular
culture.
Growing up in Montgomery, Texas, his mother was an
artist and his father was a master metal craftsman.
Todd was obviously influenced by them both, and it
is reflected in his art.
Todd
gets his inspiration during drives through the
country, finding and photographing some of the few
remaining relics from a time when signs were all
original and made by hand. He has perfected
his craft by studying the original techniques used
by the sign masters of the 1930's and 1940's.
He creates around 6 or 7 works of art a week.
So, in a sense, each piece represents a day in his
life as an artist. Each piece is signed and
numbered by the artist, making it not only a unique
and original piece of art, but a collectible and
investment.
