Strange is Beautiful!

 

 

Kate Freuler is a Canadian Artist and Performer

 

She performs with The Great Orbax Sideshow

 

as Pretty Polly the Unbreakable Doll Girl.

 

Kate/Polly does bladewalking and the human pincushion. 

 

She says "My artwork has sustained my sanity for the last 27 years." 

 

The extensive diversity of material in her collages, (often found in garbage's, industrial area roadsides, thrift stores, old people's houses -- if its been rejected she probably want it) -- reflects the wide range of anomalies that come from inside of her:  humor, darkness, joy and sometimes nonsensical blather. 

 

Kate sees the oddity in all of life's circumstances and glues them all together to create her work, which is usually an odd combination of sick/sweet, demented/cute, funny/morbid. 

 

Kate's brainchild business endeavors are called Filthy Darling,

wherein she has tried to spread around the weirdness with her greeting cards, calendars and baby sleepers. 

 

"People react to my work in many ways. 

 

What one person finds hilarious, another finds disturbing. 

 

And of course, some people just don't get it at all."
