                  "Jason D'Aquino Sideshow Gallery"

Jason's work is strongly influenced by the images of his childhood. He was first exposed to Art through the colorful pages of children's books. They fascinated him, and profoundly affected his artistic sensibilities. To this day, Fairy tale and nursery rhyme imagery are ever-present in his artwork.

Using high-powered magnification glasses, Jason creates drawings of a painstakingly miniature scale. The concentration of detail emphasizes the poignancy of the message. A work of such proportions must be viewed at very close proximity. The necessary intimacy rules out casual observation entirely.

Through the juxtaposition of old surfaces and new icons, time becomes confused and the question of chronology comes into play. The image seems to have been created long before the birth of the characters or scenarios depicted. The viewer must struggle to cope with this anachronism. What results is a state of confusion. In the throes of this art-induced disorientation, one might clearly see the truth of the work.

Jason's circus alphabet series is about to be published as an art book, There are many secret clues and hidden symbols in each illustration...for example...the E is for extraordinary...the image of course, is Johnny Eck-another E-and the Epaulettes on his jacket, and the Egg-and-dart molding on his podium-many drawings are like this, packed with things that begin with the letter title of the image...others, like the Shellfish drawing -lobsterboy Grady Stiles-there are biographical clues, the bowling ball in his lap (which is placed to look like the pearl in the giant shell in which he sits, signifies he is a treasure, but also the joke because he obviously would have a hard time bowling..also, a bit gruesome, the three hole cluster on the ball represents the bullet hole pattern on his head as he was discovered murdered...In addition, the bottle of Seagram's 7, his dad's favorite drink, upon closer inspection, reads, "single low" not Seagram's 7--"-Single low" is the Carney term for a one attraction tent. I simply want to point out, that upon closer inspection, these images yield up more than meets the eye so take your time and look close to see what Jason has in store for you on the Inside of his most marvelous artwork.
