Found a copy of an early photo of Popo, 1921 according to Lolo's (Adonna Houston Sam Houston's daughter) handwriting on the bottom, it was taken in Lincoln Park in LA. 

 

Looks like the kind of ring used by Mr. Morris and his Monks. 

 

Lolo says that Popo is on what they call a basket horse.
