Man or Devilman
HISTORY OF THE DEVIL BABY
|
|
The
monstrosity that you have just viewed has a very
interesting history, and many perils have been faced
by those who wish to bring it to light. What we, for
lack of a known scientific title have named Devil
Baby was originally discovered at an archeological
dig of a pre-colonial burial ground in Haiti.
Shortly after the occupation of Haiti by American
marines in 1915, a Dr. Henry Garfit was contracted
by military intelligence.
Dr. Garfit was a specialist on Haiti, and he was
very excited about the burial ground uncovered by
military operations.
In 1917 he began the excavation that was to change
history. While digging in one of the oldest sections
of the burial ground, the native Haitians who were
contracted for labor suddenly became very agitated
and in fact fled the site, never to return. When Dr.
Garfit went to investigate the cause of their
terror, he was the first white man to lay eyes on
the Devil Baby. The operation was immediately shut
down upon Dr. Garfit's report of the find to
military authorities. But much to their
consternation, they were never to obtain the Devil
Baby, he was found to be missing upon Dr. Garfit's
return to the site. The incident was hushed-up and
Dr. Garfit was put on an airplane home. The airplane
crashed into the sea en route to the United States. The wreckage was never found. |

Devil Baby was not seen again for 35 years when in
1952 It was seized from an Oum'phor (Voodoo Temple)
in one of the Catholic churches campaigns to stamp
out Voodoo in Haiti.
It was spared from the flames of the bonfire when
Father Mllo Alaux stole him away and hid him in the
chapel basement because of his possible implications
to the church.
After Father Alaux's death at the age of 79 in
1991, stewardship of Devil Baby fell into the hands
of Phileppe Alaux, his son. Not much else is known
about Phileppe other than that for reasons unknown
he sold Devil Baby to an American collector 2 years
after Father Alaux's death. He took his reasons to
his grave after being shot in the streets of
Port-De-Paix shortly after. As for the collector
(name withheld at the request of the family) who
purchased the Devil Baby, he returned to America
with his grisly cargo. After only two months in the
states, the brakes of his car gave out and he died
in a fiery crash. We were able to obtain Devil Baby
at a considerable cost when his estate was put up
for sale by the family.
So now, after much time and money spent on research
in America and Haiti, and in spite of numerous
threats from the Catholic Church and the Voodoo's,
Devil Baby and his amazing story are available for
public exposition for the first time. But there are
many questions still to be answered. |

Of the medical professionals we have consulted,
opinion is divided as to wither Devil Baby is simply
a freak of nature or the remnant of a lost race. Professor James Danforth of the Smithsonian
Institute seems to agree with the freak of nature
theory, "We have seen such anomaly's from time to
time throughout history. The Chinaman with a
horn-like appendage extending from his cranium is an
excellent example. However, is (Devil Baby) is the
mostly disturbing specimen of such anomalies as I
have yet seen*.
Regardless of the freak theory, local Haitian
folklore tells of a race known as the Juju, or
Devilment who once lived on what is now Haiti.
Legend has it that the Juju were vicious warriors
with "two horns upon their heads as goat, and teeth
as long as your fingers".
In fact Voodooists sometimes refer to man as a goat
on two legs". Did this term stem from legends of
the Juju, or are further remains of the Juju hidden
somewhere in Haiti?

We may never know for sure, but a chance reading of
a recent publication by an assistant has brought
further compelling evidence light in this bizarre
enigma. In a book entitled Vampires, Zombies and
Monster Men
published by Aldus books appeared a
startling photo (shown to the right) of two mummified
corpses with prominent horns and large teeth. The
man who was displaying them in Haiti claimed they
were of the lost race of Juju Devilmen! Effort is
now under way to locate the man, but so far it has
been fruitless, it would seem he has all but
vanished. |

These
are the facts of the story. So now as an enlightened
observer you may make your
own decision, Man or Devilman.
Some names have been altered or withheld to protect
those involved.
Below: A grisly exhibit of two
shrunken mummified figures known as Clahuchu and his
Bride, photographed In Haiti. The exhibitor claimed
the mummies were the last of the lost tribe of Juju
or Devllmen. He also said that the skin, horns and
hooves have beam x-rayed and found to be
human. Photo found In Vampires, Zombies and Monster
Men.
