In Memorial to Daisy Mae

It is very sad to report that last night (02-29-2008) I had to put down my Live 2 faced, 5 legged cow Daisy Mae.  She was 8 years old.  I remember 6 years ago buying her in Gibsonton Fl.  She was born two miles from The Hall Home.  And across the street from Mr. Joe Moodey.

We were in Florida to visit and work a few spots in the winter.  Our friend had a Trailer Park in Gibsonton. I was in our house trailer when Paris came in and said to hurry he had to show me something?  I said what happen?  Paris said that there was a LIVE two headed cow in the field by the park.  I put on my rubber boots and jumped the fence to see this strange Cow.

She was under a tree with her baby calf next to her. I noticed she didn't have two heads.  But a 5th leg and hoof growing out her right side of her face. I asked our friends at the park did they see that cow in the field next to them.  The said yes it was very weird but couldn't get a hold of the owner of the cow.  The next day I spotted a old man unloading a few cows in the corner of the field.  I asked him if he owned the strange cow?  He said you mean Tumor?  I thought at the time the old man didn't know the cow had a 5th leg and hoof growing out the side of her head.  He said it was his cow and wanted 500 cash for the cow.  I gave him the 500 dollars and thought I stole the animal.

On our way home to South Texas I stopped by the Giants camp in Gibsonton.  Mr. Hall and little Pete was there. He couldn't believe I found such a great attraction in Gibtown.  He wished me luck, and said to have a safe trip home.

Daisy Mae was the Star of our Sideshow for many years...She has been all over the Country.  When I noticed a larger growth on the weird side of her head I was very concerned.  I had our Vet check her out.  He tried to drain the area, however it just kept growing larger.  He told me to take her to Texas A & M.  Which we did..  The Vets said that the X-Ray showed that the growth was a horn tissue tumor.  That's when I knew the old man I bought her from was right.  She didn't have an extra leg growing out of her face.  It was a large horn growth.  The vets told me to put her down 3 months ago...She was still drinking and eating and didn't seem in any pain, so I thought I would let her live as long as possible.

She was a companion to our 6 legged cow.  Well Daisy Mae stopped eating two days ago and I knew the end was near...I called our vet and he came to euthanize her last night.  We had a large hole dug with a back hoe.  I went to get Daisy in the corral.  She was very weak and tried her best to walk with me to the back of the ranch.  However she got about 200 feet and then fell over on her side.  She was to weak to move any further.  I tried to give her all the life she had left.  But I think she knew what was happening.  She didn't move as the Vet euthanized her.  She was gone in 3 minutes.

Daisy will still be part of the show in the spring...Rest in Peace Daisy Mae... You will be very much missed........John Strong III
