Greetings to Mr
Robinson. I have just discovered your fascinating website. I am very
impressed with your depth and breadth of knowledge. However, I hope
you won't mind if I direct your attention to an error on your site.
-
You
have a photograph of a Universal News newsreel cameraman holding up
a lady midget; you have captioned this "Maybe Daisy Doll with Camera
Man". Good guess, but the lady in the photo is not Daisy Doll. She
is Daisy's younger sister Tiny Doll. I visited Tiny Doll at her home
in Florida a few years before her death. Judging from her appearance
in the photograph, I would guess that it was taken in the late 1940s
or possibly the early '50s. Tiny Doll performed sporadically into
the early 1960s. Daisy Doll was the beauty of the family, and also
slightly taller than her sister Tiny.
-
You can see a photo of
the Doll siblings, captioned to show which sister is which.
-
In this photo, Tiny is
slightly taller than her brother Harry ... but she is also wearing a
floor-length skirt, which conceals her high-heeled shoes. Actually,
Tiny was at least an inch shorter than her brother.
-
I was a circus and
sideshow performer myself -- in Britain and Australia, not the
States -- so your website has brought back for me some happy
memories. Also a few not quite so happy. Ah, well. Best wishes to
you, and good luck with your website!

Daisy Doll (whom I
never met) was taller than Tiny; in fact, if Daisy had been just a
couple of inches taller she would likely have been considered merely a
very short woman rather than a midget. She often wore high heels, even
while performing: an unusual choice for a midget, since -- in their
performances -- they usually tried to look as small as possible.
