JIVARO SHRUNKEN
HEADS
The Jivaro, an
Indian tribe of southwestern Ecuador, South America, are
perhaps most renowned for their trophy heads. The heads of
slain enemies are taken; the bones of the skull are removed; and
the skin shrunken to the approximate size of the closed fist.
The lips are sewed together to keep in the evil spirits.
The hair does not shrink.
