The replica of the Feejee Mermaid at the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport, Connecticut

Feejee Mermaid

In 1842, P.T. Barnum exhibited the first Feejee mermaid at his American Museum in New York City on lower Broadway. Unfortunately, it was lost in a 19th century fire that destroyed the entire Museum.  However, the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport, Connecticut has a replica that was made a number of years ago for a documentary.

In September, we used the Kubtec CR system and the XTEND 100 HF x-ray tube to radiograph the Museumís mermaid. The images revealed the thick and thin wire used to construct the frame to support the paper mache skin.
