"Maxine-Mina" was
born in the Philippines around 1896. She claimed to have been
born with total control of all four legs, but the extra pair
became atrophied through years of disuse. She was exhibited in
Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1917 and according to Rear Admiral
G. W. Baird, who saw her on exhibition, she still had some
control of her extra legs.
