Are Two Heads Better Than One?

The two-headed garter snake at Woodland Park Zoo is doing "just fine," says Ernie Wagner, senior zoo keeper.

He says it has grown a few inches, to a total length of 16 since it was brought to the zoo in September.

The snake, as vet un-named, has been placed in a viewing tank, where it is a star attraction.

The snake was found near Silver Lake.  It is not fully understood what causes two-headed snakes, which often die young because of defective internal organs.

But, Wagner says this two-headed snake "should live 10 to 15 years if everything goes right."

In about two years it should grow to a length of 2 feet, he said.
