John Strong's
Circus Sideshow Blow Down
At approximately 5:20pm
at the Lubbock fairgrounds, an unexpectedly
strong gust front blew through causing severe
wind damage at the sideshow tent. Structure
shown supported nine 10'x10' canvas banners and
one 10'x15' canvas banner. Each back brace is
made from 2" aluminum and held to the ground
with Model T car axle tent stakes. I cannot by
words convey the adrenaline rush of dropping
those banners rapidly in that storm. Light hail
was also noticed.
Winds were estimated at 75 mph and 90 mph by
seasoned professionals on the ground.
The show must go on (once necessary repairs are
made). Fair remains open.
