Skeleton of
John Aasen (1890-1938), former
circus giant and Hollywood movie
actor. Aasen was cast as “Colosso”
by Hal Roach in the 1923 film
Why Worry? starring Harold
Lloyd. The film was one of the
biggest box-office attractions of
1923. Skeleton in the possession
of Dr. Charles D. Humberd
(1897-1960) (photographed here
with Aasen’s skeleton) at the time
the photograph was made is
described as 214 cm (7’ 1/4”) in
height. From an album of
photographs and newspaper
clippings of giants and
acromegalic cases compiled in 1942
by Dr. Joseph McFarland
(1868-1945), curator of the Mütter
Museum.
