I'm researching
the history of a hotel that once stood near the Will Rogers
Memorial Center in Fort Worth, site of our annual rodeo and
stock show, and thus the site of an annual midway and
sideshow since 1936. A journalist has told me that some
carnival and sideshow people used to stay at the hotel.
Above is a scan
of a vintage postcard of the place. I'm hoping to reach some
people who came through here on their circuit and either
stayed there or remember it. It would be even better if some
of them had photos they took there or souvenirs from the
hotel - matchbooks, etc.
The years of the
hotel's existence: 1945-late 1960s or very early 1970s.
My projects are
a book for 2013, an article to be completed by mid-August
2012, and possibly another book to be written in
collaboration with another writer. The hotel will be
included in both books; the article focuses entirely on the
hotel.
Juliet Thanks
