One On One With Ward Hall

Ward Hall, made famous for his Hall & Christ World of Wonders show which he co-owned with Chris Christ  has a love for the circus sideshow industry that started at an early age.  "I was three years old, I had put two chairs together and my mother asked me what I was doing.  I told her I was playing in my circus tent and to my families knowledge the word circus had never been used in the house in my presence."

At the age of fourteen he worked briefly as a prop boy for the Cole Brothers Circus.  He eventually went on to become a clown with at Sun Brock's Super Colossal Wild West Show & Hollywood Thrill Circus for a short period of time as well. "It is certainly a blessing that I didnít follow that line of work because I had to be the worlds worst clown ever."

His first job as a sideshow performer came when he answered an ad for the Daily Brothers Circus who were looking for a fire eater and magician.  "I had learned to do a few magic tricks out of a book and to eat fire."

"Over the years I have learned to do many of the acts of the sideshow and circus.  I never wanted to be in the sideshow, my goal was to become a circus performer. Foolishly we left the circus, we had such a good deal there and we were making so much money.  But I wanted so badly to own a show of my own.  So we bought our first sideshow on July 3rd 1951 for one thousand dollars."

Over the last 50 years Ward has worked many Circuses and Fairs, appeared on stage and in movies and belonged to many organizations that promote the industry.

All of the stories and memories you are about to read are in Ward's own words.
