Carnival midway showman Ward Hall said
of him: “Melvin was a great guy. I never heard him say a
bad word about anyone and I never heard anyone ever say a
bad word of him.
A
remarkable, wonderful way to go through life.”

“Now I
want to thank you for your attention, boys and girls, ladies
and gentlemen.
We’re
going to continue our program, right here on this same
platform.
I might
add that on many occasions, people will come in and ask me:
‘Hey, do you have a tattooer here?’
Yes, we
have a tattoo artist -- Captain Chico who has his booth at
the far end of the tent. All those pretty pictures that you
see hanging on the wall have been placed upon the human
anatomy at some time or another and represent a design that
he has there… available to anyone who’d like to get a
tattoo.
You
might like to get your social security number tattooed on
you… your name… your initials… your girl’s name… your wife’s
name… somebody else’s wife’s name… he doesn’t care.
He’d be glad to oblige you.
Anytime
you’d like to talk with him, or find out about getting a
tattoo, he’ll be down there and he’d be very glad to have
you come see him and talk with him.”
