Separation of Chang
and Eng
It is said that the
celebrated Siamese Twins are about to go to Paris, in order to submit to
a surgical operation which will separate them after a
union of fifty nine years.
They were brought to
England from Siam in the year 1827 or 1828, by Capt.
Bunker, at present living in New York, and from a series
of years they were exhibited to the public at all great
centers of civilization.
Having visited
America, they determined to make this land their home.
They bought a valuable tract of land in North Carolina,
married two sister, and settled in the ordinary routine
of a farmer's dairy life.
Each of them is now the
father of nine children.
